£200,000 CHEQUE
Lady Houston’s Offer to Chancellor NATIONAL DEFENCES By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Rec. April 15, 7 p.m.) London, April 14. Lady Houston has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, offering a cheque for £200,000 instead of a cheque for £40,000 due for income tax. Lady Houston proposes that the extra amount go toward the cost of an adequate army, navy and air force, which she considers requires an addition of five millions in the coming Budget. Lady Houston adds that if 19 others do the same thing as she has done the paltry sum required to ensure national safety will be found.
