The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, and Councillors W. H. Bennett, J. McEldowney, S. Holm, F. Meadowcroft, J. Burns, J. McDonald, W. Appleton, J. N. Wallace, H. A. Huggins, and W. Duncan were present at a meeting of the City Council held last evening.

The council decided that its meetings hi future l>e held monthly instead of three-weekly.

On the recommendation of the Tramways Committee the council decided: That the following expenditure be made a charge on the tramways and electricity renewal funds for the year ended March 31, 1932, and that a demand bo made on the Renewal Fund Commissioners accordingly:—Tramways: Relaying tracks, renewal of trolley wire and centre screen construction to tramcars, £22,880/0/6. Electricity: New meters, replacing old meters, £34,986 11/10.

A request by the Wellington War Memorial Carillon Society for the council to provide for the flood lighting of the carillon tower was declined.

A request by the Wellington Harbour Board for food refuse from ships to be burnt at the destructor was approved on terms and conditions laid down by the city engineer. • * •

The Tramways Committee reported that a deputation has been received from the Hataitai Municipal Electors' Association with respect to the improvement of traffic conditions by the removal of a building owned by the Tramways Department at the corner of Moxbam Avenue and the approach road to the new tunnel. This matter is receiving attention.

When the War Memorial is handed over to the citizens of Wellington, the City Council will accept responsibility for its maintenance, and keep it, in order for all time. Formal authority to place the city’s seal on a document setting out the transfer of the memorial was given at last evening’s meeting of the council.

The taxi-stand on the north side of Buuny Stret is to be abolished, and the space occupied as a motor-bus stand.

The Breaker Bay Progressive Association has asked the City Council to tar seal the Breaker Bay Road. The request has not been acceded to, as the estimate of the cost is £4OOO.

Maurice Terrace is to be surface sealed when the work of laying a new water main in the street is completed and the trench consolidated, subject to the property-owners contributing at least £4O toward the cost of the sealing work.

The City Council lias resolved (bat the public must be excluded from the reserve at the lower dam of the Karori reservoir.

“I’ve noticed that they have made a start to paint the old tin sheds at Clyde Quay,” said Councillor W. Appleton at last evening’s meeting of the City Council. “I hope they will go on with the good work. It’s time something was done to clean up that part of the city.” « » ♦

It was announced by the Mayor last evening that the amount of rates outstanding at the end of the year (March 31) was £44,299.

In reply to a petition from the club controlling the Rintoul Street tennis courts, the City Council decided last evening to allow unrestricted ’Sunday play.
