Zamora Takes the Oath —\

Madrid, December 11

“If you act according to your promises the nation will reward you, if you do not, it will demand your punishment,” said the Speaker of the Cortes, after Don Alcala Zamora, the first Spanish President, took the oath, promising faithfully to serve the Republic. A salute of twenty-one guns roared outside the Chamber as Don Zamora was solemnly after which he proceeded homeward through gaily 'decorated streets, being cheered by thousands of people and escorted by fifty aeroplanes, which previously had scattered a million copies of the Constitution over the city.
