Conference in Japan NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES Three of the five delegates who will represent the New Zealand group at the conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations at Hangchow next month will leave Wellington by the Ulimaroa to-day. They will be Mr. 11. F. Von Haast, of Wellington; Mr. J. E. Strachan, of Rangiora, Canterbury; and Mr. R. G. Hampton, of Christchurch. Mr. Strachan, who is principal of the Rangiorr. High School and president of ‘he Canterbury Progress League, will be chairman of the delegation. Mr. Hampton, who is a graduate of Canterbury College and at present engaged in teaching, will be secretary. The other two New Zealand delegates, Mr. W. T. G. Airey and Miss Vera Hay, both of Auckland, will leave by the Aorangi on its next trip. The conference in Japan next month will deal particularly with the economic relationships of the countries bordering the Pacific in the light of present-day trade conditions. The seven sections of the programme that has been mapped out for the conference are: (1) International economic relations in the Pacific; (2) international political relations in the Pacific; (3) food and population; (4) dependent peoples of the Pacific islands, their economic, social and political problems; (5) cultural and social relations: (6) migration and race problems; (7) labour problems and the standard of living.
