Dr. and Miss Bennett, of Blenheim, are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. Cunningham and daughter, of Palmerston North, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. T. C. Davies, manager, Mr. S. J. Malcolm, captain, and other members of the Australian Rugby football team are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. John Ringland, of Dunedin; Mr. G. W. Smith and Mr. U. Smith. Invercargill; and Mr. F. W. Mothes, Wellington, are at tho Hotel St. George. Major F. W. Kemp, New Zealand Medical Corps, has been appointed to command the Second Field Ambulance, succeeding Captain W. 11. B. Bull. Mr. P. W. Maddock, manager, and Mr. W. K. Worboys, secretary, of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Ltd., will leave to-day on a business trip to Sydney by the Ulimaroa.
The Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotea-Roa, developed earlier in the week a slight attack of bronchitis and was admitted to St. George’s Hospital. Christchurch, on Tuesday. Mr. Thomas A. Kinmont, of Hawera; Mr. W. Kirkham, Auckland; Mr. D. O. Williams. Palmerston North; Mr. J. Caldaw, Bulls; Mr. J. Keruahan, and Mr. C. Gibbons, Christchurch, are at the Grand Hotel. •
Mr. R. A. Anderson, of Invercargill; Mr. W. Tonga, Christchurch: Mr. R. M. Innes-Jones, Te Kuiti; Mr. George Baildon, Auckland; Mr. A. Bell. IlavelocH North; and Mr. John R. Leggo, Nelson, are at the Royal Oak Hotel.
Mr. H. S. Williams, manager of Butterworth Bros. Ltd., has been appointed Christchurch manager for Ross and Glendining Ltd., in succession to Mr. P. Davidson. He will take over his new duties in October.
Flight-Lieutenant A. de T. Nevill, New Zealand Permanent Air Force, has relinquished the appointment of Staff Officer to the Director of Air Services, and has been posted to the New Zealand Air Base, Auckland, for general duties.
Mr. Walter Dallow, has retired after 27 years’ service with the Wellington Harbour Board, was presented on Wednesday by members of tho tolls office staff with a set of books suitably inscribed. The -presentation was made by Mr. D. Lewis, who testified to the esteem in which Mr. Dallow was held.
Captain W. r. Clifton-Mogg, late commodore of the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company’s fleet, is a passenger by the liner Corinthic, which is due at Wellington on September 22 from London and Southampton. Captain CliftonMogg, who was recently appointed marine superintendent in Australia for the Aber-cleen-Commonwealth Line and its associate interests, intends, it is understood, to spend several weeks in New Zealand before proceeding to Australia to take up his new duties. The Rev. John Robinson Temple has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the London secretariat of the British and Foreign Bible Society which occurred through the resignation of the Rev. John 11. Ritson after more than 30 years’ service. Mr. Temple, who is a member of the English Wesleyan Church, was for eleven years engaged in missionary work in South China and for two further years as chaplain in France. Recently he has been doing special work at Cambridge University. Mr. Temple’s colleague will be the Rev. A. 11. Wilkinson, who joined the secretariat in 1929 from the ranks of the clergy of the Church of England, and who will now take charge of the department which includes New Zealand.
