FAITHFUL TO DUTY

Dominion’s Public Service “It is a matter for congratulation that there is no suggestion of graft in the Public Service of New Zealand.” said the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, at the annual reunion of the Auckland branch of the Public Service Association. Replying to the principal toast, the Assistant Public Service Commissioner, Mr. B. L. Dallard, said there was a tendency at present to criticise the service as an autocratic bureaucracy, but it must be remembered that it was only carrying out what was authorised by statute. He maintained that the Public Service was faithfully discharging its duty to the community.
