The boy champions, Harry Williams and Jim Ferrier, engaged in a gruelling contest, the Victorian (Williams) triumphing over the New South Wales youth by 1 up. Ferrier missed too many putts, and was 4 down at the end of the morning round. Williams was superb, hitting with great power and confidence, and was much superior in his Iron strokes. Ferrier made a great and thrilling recovery, but missed a 3-foot putt on the last green to square the match, Williams thus winning, 1 up. In the other amateur semi-finals G. Thompson beat S. Keane, 8 and 7. In the professional semi-finals Spence beat Howard, 1 up. Bolger beat the Queenslander, Cohen, 2 np.
