A reign of terror took effect at Chittagong, when mobs of thousands of Moslems, infuriated at the assassination of a Moslem police officer, looted Hindu jewellers’, tailors’, and rice shops, after which buildings were set afire. The damage is estimated at over £BOO,OOO. . The police were busy all day saving Hindus from the mob’s fury. Armed police are now patrolling the streets. A serious rail accident 'Occurred In South India when the Trivandrum express capsized. Three passengers, and the driver were, injured, the other passengers miraculously escaping. DEATH-ROLL IN QUAKE Feared it Will be Heavy SHOCK FELT YESTERDAY (Rec. September 2, 10.15 p.m.) Delhi, September 2. An earthquake shock occurred In North-West India to-day. It is now revealed that the terrific quake during the week-end was responsible for 80 deaths in Kachhl and Kalat, In the State of Baluchistan, and a town named Dhadar was destroyed. A high death-roll is feared. GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE Sympathy of New Zealand The following is a copy of a message which was sent yesterday by his Excellency the Governor-General to the Viceroy of India in connection with the earthquake disaster in that country :— “The Government and people of New Zealand join with me in expressing to your Excellency our profound sympathy with the inhabitants of the earthquakestricken area of India who have suffered bereavement, personal injury, and heavy material loss in the recent terrible disaster which has befallen them.

"We remember with gratitude the sympathy extended to us by the people of India in our own similar affliction in February last.”
