CHILEAN DESERTERS

Will Remain in Dominion WORK FOUND FOR ONE By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 1. No action is to be taken by the Government of Chile in regard to the three Chilian sailors who remained in Auckland after the departure for Valparaiso last Thursday of the training shin General Baquedano. The men were arrested and charged with vagrancy. "I have received advice as to the attitude of the Chilian Government, through the Consul-General for the Republic at Sydney,” said Mr. E. A. Craig. Consul for Chile. “The men are now entirely in the hands of the authorities in New Zealand.” One of the seamen, Jose Miguel Munoz, was brought before Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., in the Police Court. A position having been found for Ibis man by Mr. Craig, who acted in the matter in a private capacity, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called unon within twelve months. The effect of this decision is that Munoz is released from custody and is now free to accept an offer of employment on a fishing launch operated by a countryman, who has been a resident of Auckland for nbout fourteen years. The other two sailors, Carlos Mery and Diomicio Urzuia, are still in custody. It is most probable their release will be secured in the event of employment being found for them.
