CHIEF SCOUT’S TOUR
New Zealand Impressions ‘A CHEERFUL REVELATION’ London, August 12. “A cheerful revelation” is the description by the Chief Scout, Lord BadenPowell, of his impressions and those of the Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell, of their visit to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. “The boys and girls, from Cubs and Brownies to Rovers and Rangers, were equal to the Home standard, in appearance, training and spirit,” he writes in an article. "The training is showing its efteet on the characters of those who have grown up. The officers of Scouts and Guides are not only giving voluntary service with whole-hearted zeal and self-sacrifice, but their instruction camps are established on a sound footing, and have given them the right grasp of the methods of imparting knowledge. “A striking feature in Australia and New Zealand was the public appreciation of the movement. In spite of the bad times, the rallies were attended by huge and enthusiastic crowds, such as one seldom sees in Britain on such occasions.” The Chief Scout mentions especially the crowd of 45.000 at the Sydney rally, and adds: “With possibly a few further steps in organisation, the movement showed itself in a position to expand with full confidence and yet greater service to the nation.”
