MAN WITH THE RISKIEST JOB
The man with the riskiest job in the world is planning to visit England in the near future because, he says, he has a longing to see the old world before he sees the next world. Tex Thornton is a professional oil well shooter—that is, he gains a hazardous living by starting oil wells by the use of high explosive shells or extinguishing oil fires by “bldwing them out” with nltrO-glycerine. He was the hero of a recent oil well fire in Texas which illustrates his extraordinarily risky job. He donned his asbestos suit and crawled out towards the spouting inferno.
In front of him he pushed tWo asbestos tubes containing enough eiplosive to annihilate a town. When he got within range he plated the explosive shells so that when they Exploded they would blow Out the column of blazing gas from the oil. Thfeii ran back and waited lot the heat to Are the explosive. “I've been following this trade for 14 years,” Tex said. “I’ve had some amazingly 1 narrow escapes. But the job. appeals to ip6 and I shall go on doing it Until—-Welt until I get what’s coming to me sooner or later.”
