Lord Stamfordham’s Will It has been revealed that Lord Stamfordbam safeguarded in his will the royal secrets with which Jie was entrusted during over 50 years as the friend and confidant first of Queen Victoria and then of King George. Leaving his unsettled property of £143,767 to iiis daughters, Mrs. Victoria Adeane and Miss Margaret Bigge, Lord Stamfordham bequeathed his private papers to the latter, who kept house for him after the death of Lady Stnmfordham in 1923. The bequest is made in a codicil, and includes all personal papers, “particularly those of a private and confidential nature.” “There is not. the least likelihood that these papers or any memoirs of Lord Stamfordham will ever be published,” says Miss Bigge. “It was his express wish that nona of his private papers should ever be revealed.” Lord Stamfordham, who was known as “the power behind the throne,” knew more State secrets than any other man in the world.
