COMMUNITY SING
Harmony at the Town Hall
“It is simply wonderful to think that thousands of listeners-in are getting the same thrill out of these sings that we are,” said Mr. Albert Russell at the well-attend-ed community sing in the Town Hall yesterday. The song leaders were Messrs. C. Webb and Russell, whilst Mr. J. Duncan presided at the pianoforte. The numbers included such popular songs as “Annie Laurie.” “My Old Kentucky Home,” “Drink to Me Only,” “Marching Through Georgia,” “John Brown’s Body,” the round “Three Blind Mice,” Mr. Ernest Short, the local baritone, lent variety to the proceedings by singing solo a verse of “Drink to Me Only,” which was greatly appreciated. These weekly sings at all events show that there are many in Wellington who still have the capacity to cheer up under the stimulating effect of music. The donations yesterday for the Mayor’s Relief Fund amounted to £l6/10/10.
