TROTTING NOTES

Metropolitan Meeting BIG RACE VERY OPEN (By “Overcheck.”) The acceptances received by the Metropolitan Club for the first day of its forthcoming meeting arc very satisfactory, aud the success of the meeting from a racing point of view appears to be assured. Fourteen have made the final payment in the August Handicap, including Harold Logan, Jewel Pointer, and Roi I’Or. The field generally is a very strong one, aud the race promises to be a difficult one to win. A review of the various races will be made iu Saturday’s issue. Working Well. Vesuvius is reported to be goiugi very pleasingly in his work at Addington. He has accepted in the mile race, being handicapped ou a 2.10 mark. The field in this race is a big ope and those ou the back marks may find it difficult to get through it in time to take a hand over the final stages. Generous Gesture. An advertisement in the "Referee” states that the owners of mares visiting Acron this season will not be required to pay the service fee until their foals win a race. This very generous offer will no doubt be highly appreciated and availed of. Will Havq to Do His Best. Great Ballin is making the journey south. Reports frqjn the north indicate that he had to be eased in his work for a day or two, but the trouble cleared up quickly and he worked well on Saturday. He is racing in good company at Addington, and will require to be at the top of his form if be is to pay expenses. Priceless has arrived at Addington and is reported to be in nice order. He is a good sort and should do well during the current season.

Cliange of Quarters. Zella is again being trained at Addington under the care of J. Fraser. She registered a smart performance at Addington when last trained in the south, but her subsequent form Tas been very disappointing.

Early Favourite. Regal Voyage appears to be the ruling favourite in the south for the August Handicap.

Training Noles. The main track at Addington was available for training operations on Saturday, and some very interesting work was accomplished. Warplane and Native Prince worked well over a mile and a half. The former is looked upon as a very likely horse to secure winning honours at Addington. He won a double at this meeting last year and appears to race well on the southern course.

Change of Gait. Reports from the south indicate that Orphan is now being worked at the trotting gait, and that he is striking out well in his work.

Regaining Form. Acre was seen to more advantage than Cushla d’Or in a work-out over a mile on Saturday. The former is reported to have shown a great deal of improvement during the past few weeks. To be Sold.

To wind up the estate of the late Mr. R. A. Armstrong Logan Park and Morrison are to be submitted to public auction at the Grand National trotting stock sale to be held in Tattersall’s on August 17. The first-named is a particularly brilliant pacer, but he is now on a tight mark and this will no doubt influence the bidding.
