June Quarter Returns
A statement of receipts and payments for the three months from April 1 to June 30 was presented to the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board by the engineer and general manager, Mr. AV. E. Hollands, at its last meeting.
■On die receipts side there was shown a balance of £15,547/16/7 from the end of the last financial year. Power sales amounted to £27.972/14/2, and other Items. £5BB/9/8, making a total of £44,109/0/5. On the payments side sundry creditors amounted to £10.510/10/8; salaries, £lB7l 3/2; wages. £1286/13/8: superannuation, £42/15/7; postages and telephones, £l3l 7/3; meter deposits. £116; transport, £299/9/8; insurance. £4B/8/-; replacement cars and trucks, £539/10/-; replacement and maintenance of plant, £122/17/8: interest on loans, £079/11/-; sinking fund and debentures, £l6B/1/4; depreciation fund. £7526/9/1; renewals fund, £2000: general, £345/5/9. making a total of £25.988/2/10, thereby leaving a credit balance of £18,120/17/7. Power Sales nnd Purchases. A statement of power sales and power purchases for the same period (April 1 to June 30) was presented, the figures for the corresponding quarter of last year being also given. They are here given in parentheses. Domestic lighting brought in £13,319 1/8 (£12,962/2/9): heating, cooking and water-heating. £7217/8/4 (£6012/13/10); power, £7321/5/0 .(£7872/9/11); street lighting, £1260/10/3 (£l2lB/4/2); penalty, £ (£9l/17/5); totals, £20,118/5/9, less discount £1593/1/7, £27.525/4/2 (£28,157/8/1, less discount £551/16/10, £27,605/11/3). While last year there was no distinction between domestic and commercial lighting, this year the accounts are shown separately. The return from domestic lighting for the quarter was £11.120/7/1, and commercial lighting, £2198/14/7. Heating and cooking brought in £5lll/15/8. and water-heating, £2105/12/8. Power purchased by the board amounted to £H,2aB/4/10 (£10,708/0/10). The shutting down of the Tawa Flat tunnel working for six weeks cost the board a bit of money, said Mr. Hollands, but that should be made up now that work has been resumed. 4 s showing the way the board’s establishment of collecting depots is welcomed by consumers it was reported that £1323 2/0 was collected for June. Complete specifications and working drawings for the new sub-station at Gracefield have been prepared by Mr. Hollands, and tenders have been called to close on July 27. A “kiosk”’ sub-station In a right-of-way between Hinau Street and Totara Crescent, Lower Hutt, lias been completed and is now in operation. It was stated by Mr. Hollands that this is the first, sub-station of its kind in New Zealand. It was functioning satisfactorily. There was no interference with the right-of-way and hardly any noise. The board's transport fleet of twenty vehicles covered 13,245 miles during June, consuming 771 gallons. It .was stated that the Government substation at Melling would be about two months and a half late In completion. The work of relnspectlon was still being proceeded with in the Lower Hutt area. Increasing Consumers. The total number of consumers in the board's area at June 30 was 10.589. an increase of 31 on the previous month. The number of ranges was 1384, six being added for June, and the number of waterheaters 1201, an increase of fourteen. The number of units of power registered for June was 2,106.600. Statistical returns for the quarterly period ended June 30 were presented, the figures for the corresponding period last year being also given. Total number of consumers, 10,580 (9820): units purchased. April 1,862,400 (1.933,030), May 1,887.800 (2,105.900), June 2,100,600 (2.069,740) Increases in consumers were 1— 1 ranges, 27 (52); water-heaters, 32 (80).
