BALL AT THE PALACE

Given by Their Majesties GLOVES AND FANS WORN (Rec. July 17, 9 p.m.) Loudon, July 17. The Royal ball at Buckingham Palace last evening was a great success. The King wore the kilted full-dress of a Colonel-in-Chief of the Black Watch. The Queen wore a gown of ivory-coloured chiffon embroidered with pearls and diamante. The dance programme consisted of foxtrots, the “Blue Danube,” and other waltzes, but no tangos. Every woman wore long white Kid gloves, and most of them carried fans. The younger members of the Royal Family, led by the Prince of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of York, formed a merry group. A British official wireless message states that for the private ball ; at Buckingham Palace, . 2009 invitations were issued. This is the first function of its kind since 1912, though a State ball was held in 1924. Princess Ingrid of Sweden was a member of the Royal group.
