MOTHERS’ HELPERS SOCIETY

Thanks from Grateful Mothers A well-attended meeting of the Mothers’ Helpers Society was held yesterday at the Navy League rooms, Lambton Quay. The president, Miss H. Miles, was~in the chair, nnd apologies were received from Mrs. H. Hall, Mrs. M. Reid, and Mrs. J. Halligan. It was announced that Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop had accepted the position of vicepresident. It was reported that there had been much illness among the mothers during this severe' winter; also that many grateful letters had been received in praise of the excellent work done by the society’s helpers. The bridge party and jumble sale, both held recently, together had produced the splendid sum of £5O for the funds. Those present included Mesdames McKibbin, Coleridge. Bayfield, Anderson, Gordon Reid, C. Miles, F. Ward, WinterBrown, Grafton-Bothainley, G. Guthrie, C. W. Earle, J. Darling, W. F. Findlay, Mcl’arland, Norman, Miss F. Sutton (secretary).

The Wanganui Male Choir held .in enjoyable social evening in the Victoria League rooms on Saturday night. Partsongs were given by the choir and solos by Messrs. Wad man and Haar. The card prizes were won by Mrs. Christensen and Mt, J. Cowie. The executive committee of the Wanganui District Association of Girl Guides, the company committees and guiders held an enjoyable social evening in the Elriek Lounge last week. There were nearly 70 present. Mrs. M. Hirst, District Commissioner, spoke on the work of the committees, and Miss Socburg, company captain, on the various competitions then ir. progress among the companies. An amusing competition was won by Mrs. E. M. Silk. A song by Miss Smith and supper concluded the evening.
