Mayor’s Distress Fund TOTAL TO DATE £1742 Urgent Need for Giving In view of the vital urgency of the need the response to the Mayor’s appeal for funds to tide needy folk in Wellington over the winter has been disappointing. The collectors are met everywhere with the same story that business is so bad and money so hard to get that they have little or none to give away. Others, not in a business on their own account, are disposed to help, but in many cases they state that their wages have been reduced 10 per cent or more, and they must look after their own immediate future. In the meantime there are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of households in need of food —actually on the breadline—who will have to be helped over the next three months at least. The latest subscriptions received for the Mayor’s fund are as follow
