PAPER CURRENCY
At Randwick Road School, Moera, recently, Mr. W. Dickinson. M.A., continued his lecture of the previous week on ‘Paper C explained how the system of barter was limited by space and how essential It was for a medium through which exchange could take place. Gold and silver, he stated, chiefly because of man’s craving for adornment, possessed In itself something of value. This gave It wide acceptability, and was the main reabod why it had taken the place of other mediums of exchange. it was imperative, Mr. Dickinson said, for the unit of exchange to remain conBtant. Paper money fluctuated in value and unless it was backed by gold did not fulfil acceptability. Mr. Dickinson will continue his series of lectures next Tuesday, when the subject will be “Remonetisation of Silver.’’
