WORK AT ARAPUNI

Test of By-pass Tunnel

NO SIGN OF EROSION Dominion Special Service. Hamilton, May 10. The by-pass tunnel at the Araphni dam was closed for two hours on Sunday to test the strengthening measures taken since the works were closed down last June. The lining of the tunnel has been reinforced, and Sunday’s test demonstrated that the work was satisfactory. The lining of the tunnel was found to be in excellent condition and no erosion was reported to have been discovered.

The power supply at Horahora was decreased by the closing of the tunnel, but as there was no industrial load at the time no inconvenience was experienced.
