According to a Berlin message a shunting engine, caught by an outgoing goods
train near the Bridgehead at Essen, was thrown over the. railings and dropped on a child playing in the street. Both the occupants, of the engine were also killed.
On the Mongolia, which has arrived at Fremantle, are the billiardists Walter Lindrum, Tom Newman, the professional champion of England, Sydney Lee, the twenty-year-old amateur champion of England, and Lawrence Steeples, a prominent amateur.
Abyssinian Wedding. A ceremony even more magnificent than the coronation of the Emperor Ras Tafari of Abyssinia will be witnessed when his thirteen-year-old daughter. Princess Zenne, will be married to the son of Ras Hailou, a chieftain, who has hitherto been hostile to the Emperor, states a message from the capital, Addis Ababa.
Fate of Old Sliips. The committee of the British Board of Trade has decided that a policy of scrapping old merchant ships is impracticable, as it is impossible to devise a scheme which would secure the necessary financial support from the industries concerned or operate equitably between the individuals, states a London message.
Memoirs Expurgated. Prince von Bulow’s memoirs will liepublished on May 20. in a form acceptable to Lord Lonsdale, states a London message. A few copies were issued last week, but were withdrawn, because Lord Lonsdale threatened to bring an action for libel on account of certain references made to his causing mischief between King Edward VII and the ex-Kaiseiv
Salvation Army Bill. The Salvation Army Bill was read a third time in the British House of Commons by 221 votes to 31, states a London message. This Bill, applied for by General Higgins, provides that future appointments to the office of General shall be by election, prescribes the age at which the General shall vacate his office, and permits the formation of a trustee company in which all the property of the Army shall be vested.
