WORKLESS FEMALES
Nearly 200 Registrations APPEAL FOR EMPLOYMENT “We are greatly in need of offers of casual employment for a number of women who simply cannot make ends meet on the earnings of the husband,” said Mrs. Peryman, president of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, yesterday, at whose headquarters about 60 names had been registered, mostly women of mature age. At the Y.W.C.A., where a register was opened yesterday, 108 .names were received. The majority were girls and women up to 25 years of age. The two organisations are collaborating with a view to avoiding duplication. Mrs. Peryman said many of the women were too independent to seek charitable aid. They 'had excellent references and could do a good day’s work, and would be only too glad to get casual employment. The Y.W.C.A. registrations include a number of the girls who are shorthand typists, and many machine workers, laundresses and domestic workers. The secretary will be glad to hear of anyone able to offer a home with at least pocket money to some of these girls in return for domestic duties. .
