Vice-Regal. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, opened the new science buildings of the Massey Agricultural College at Palmerston North yesterday afternoon. His Excellency, accompanied by her Excellency Lady Bledisloe, will leave today for a four days' visit to Wairakei, afterward going into residence at Government House, Auckland, for a few weeks. Ministerial. . ’ The Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister, attended the opening of the new wing at Massey College yesterday. He will be in Wellington to-day. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, left for Auckland last evening on important business. He will go into the question of dealing with the Auckland Harbour .Bridge Company Bill while in the north, preparatory to its introduction in Parliament next session. In addition he will investigate matters concerning the formation of the Auckland Water Board, and he is also to open a dental clinic at Mount Eden. The Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour, will leave for New Plymouth today. The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Public Works, left for Arapuni by train last evening. He will make an inspection of the works, returning to Wellington in a few days’ time. , The Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, is to leave for Feilding by train today, and he will be away from Wellington for a short while.

The Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Railways, wiil leave for his home at Wanganui to-day.

Sub-Lieutenants P. D. Hall and F. G, Tidswell, of the R.N.V.R. (N.Z. Division), have been promoted to lieutenant.

Mr. H. Tomlinson, of Nelson ; Mr. G. A. Copeland, Sydney; and Mr. I. Ramsay, of Scotland, are at the Hotel St. George.

Sir James Gunson made a visit to Wellington yesterday and left on his return to Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Lench, of London, nnd Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor, of Dunedin, are staying at the Hotel St. George. Mr. J. W. Salmon was elected chairman and Mr. A. T. Burnette secretary at the first meeting of the new Newtown School Committee.

Canon Percival James, vicar of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, who left for Hawera on Wednesday, 'will return to Wellington next Wednesday. Sir George Fowlds, of Auckland, chairman of the Massey College Council, attended the opening of the new science block of the college at Palmerston North yesterday. ■ Captain R. A. Briggs arrived in Auckland by the Ulimaroa on Tuesday on a business visit to the Dominion. He formerly held a commission in the Royal Engineers and now is attached to the Royal Corps of Signals.

Mr. T. Bunting, of Tauranga; Mr. P. Reeves, Mr. J. S. Connell and Mr. J. A. Redpath, Christchurch; Mr. W. M. Ingram, Auckland; Mr. S. Dunn, Wanganui ; and Mr. W. L. Naylor, London, are staying at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. John Garnham, Mr. G. Watchorn and Mr. J. F. Lawson, of Palmerston North; Mr. K. Whitlock and Mr. J. Weeks, Wanganui; Mr. D. Brydon, Auckland; and Mr. T. Grey, ' Christchurch, are at the Hotel Grand Central.

Mr. W. Ivory, who retired 20 years ago from the position of sub-manager of the Melbourne branch of the Scottish Union Insurance Company, arrived in Auckland by the Ulimaroa on Tuesday to visit his daughter, Mrs. Miles Nelson, of Stanley Bay. Dr. E. Marsden, permanent head of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department, and Dr. L. Cockayne, assistant Director-General of Agriculture, have been appointed members of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute, according to a notice in the current issue of the Gazette.

Mr. R. P- Furness, proprietor of the “Marlborough Express,” has been reelected president of the Marlborough Automobile Association for the tenth year in succession. Reference was made at the annual meeting to the time he devotes to the duties of the office. Mr Furness announced that it would be his last year as president.
