SELF-EXPRESSION
An evening of modern physical culture was given last night at the Y.W.C.A. Hall by Frieda Shaw and advanced pupils. Teh tunics of different colours worn by the students were very smart and neat. A small talk on health was given before the display'began by Frieda Shaw, who outlined briefly the new health-giving food relative to the aft. Then followed a series of different toning exercises by the students, with Barbara Phear as the leader. A song called “Carmena” by Lane Wilson was then rendered by Miss Etbna Greig. Miss Greig wore a very dainty frock of. pink georgette. Marion Todd in the next item performed some balancing exercises and self-expression movements, and a jiu-jitsu demonstration by Barbara Phear concluded the first half of the programme. After the interval the physical culture girls did some interesting group reclining, which was followed by some advanced reclining exercises by Marion Todd, while the “Kettle Boils,” a few examples of quick neck and hand exercises, was expertly performed by Frieda Shaw. Marjorie Bennie sang with delicacy and finish “Berceuse de Jocelyn,” by Godard, with a violin obbligato played by Richard Maunder. Miss Bennie wore a most graceful frock of apricot lace over apricot crepe-de-eliine. The final item was an amusing display called the “Cat’s Daily Dozen” by Marion Todd. Mr. Trevor Fisher very cleverly arranged and plnyed all the music for the display. Miss Shaw in expressing her appreciation of Mr. Trevor ..Fisher’s work regretted his early departure for England. Miss Shaw wore a tight-fitting evening frock of headed silver and black tunic effect, with a flared black net skirt.
