BRIGHT PROSPECTS

Interprovincial Eights ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP Hy Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 20. Prospects for the inter-provincial eightoar championship of New Zealand, which will be contested by crews representing Auckland, Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago provinces, appear very bright, because there is every indication of settled weather to-morrow. Auckland is entering the lightest crew in the contest; nevertheless supporters of the northern province feel confident that their men will give a good account of themselves. The Marlborough men have already had a few spins on the harbour and give every indication of having undergone a thorough training. The Canterbury representatives, who arrived on Thursday, have not as yet had an opportunity of trying the w’ater, but their chances are favoured by a large section of the rowing fraternity. The Otago crew is the strongest entered by the province for this race, and local enthusiasts are confident that the trophy will be retained for another year. Should the weather turn southerly, Auckland and Marlborough, who hold inside positions, will have the best course, but present indications point to a light easterly, in which event no one crew will be favoured by the course.
