TROTTING

Cheviot Meeting To-day

FIELDS REVIEWED

(By

“Overcheck.”)

The annual meeting o-f the Cheviot Trotting Club will be held to-day. Some of the fields are on the large size, but the racing promises to be of an interesting nature. The card is as follows:— TRIAL HANDICAP (in harness), of 40 sovs. Class, 3.7. One mile and aquarter. Belle Pointer . scr Linella scr Ray wood .... scr Dorack scr Nat Dillon .... scr Romanos .... scr Skllliecorn .. scr Dark Girl .... scr Lemoro scr Orui scr Shirley Bingen scr Duet scr Kanieri scr Oro’s Pride ... scr Vagabond King scr Rokcna scr Pronto Bingen scr Jester 12 Nell Dillon ... scr Walnon! 24 Parramatta ... scr Te Alke 36 Tempo scr Little Victor . 3« There is not much public form to go upon in endeavouring to select the winner of the Trial Handicap, but three that should run well are Vagabond King, Te Aike, and Little Victor. Te Aike was second to Ratloc at Banks Peninsula, going .3.32 2-5, while Vagabond King ran fourth. Little Victor ran third over two miles at Ashburton in December, going 4.40 2-5. which is approximately 2.55 for 10 furlongs. Little Victor may be favourite. DOMETT HANDICAP (in saddle), of 45 sovs. Trotters only. Class, 3.50. One mile and a-lialf. Gift scr Beil Heather .. 12 Rembrandt .. scr Fair Exchange 36 Don Denver .. sec Esbine 60 Element scr Arthur Thorpe 72 In the Domett Handicap, Element, Esbine aud Arthur Thorpe are a likely trio. The first-named won in her only start last year, going 3.49 2-5, and defeating Esbine from off the same mark. Esbine won over two miles later in the day, and has since shown fair form. Arthur Thorpe ran a couple of thirds at Kaikoura last month. Element may receive most support. CHEVIOT TROTTING CUP (in harness), of 125 sovs. Class, 4.52. Two miles. Compromise .. scr Willie Derby . 24 Glitter scr Actor 24 Bell Somerton . scr Glenlake 36 Fleet Arrow .. scr Schoolmate .. 36 Vican scr Lord Gold Rush .... scr Matchlight 48 Netta Oro ... scr Mountain Ore . 49 Oxford Queen . 24 Ulm 60 In the Cheviot Cup Vican, Netta Oro and Oxford Queen may be in demand. Vican has raced pretty consistently this Beason, and at Grtymouth in January defeated Lomar and Ruth Logan. 1 Netta Oro won at Tlmaru over 12 furlongs in 3.27 1-5, while Oxford Queen was successful over two miles at the Banks Peninsula meeting on March 7, in which race Netta Oro ran fourth. The latter now comes in on 24 yards better terms. MINA HANDICAP (in harness), of 55 sovs. Class, 2.28. One mile. Skilliecorn .. ser Oro’s Pride ... scr Jessie Bells .. scr Rokena scr Worthy Star .. scr Walnon! 12 Parramatta .. scr Jester 12 Tempo scr Future 24 Linella scr Master Don ... 24 Princess Thea . scr Little Victor . 24 Romanos .... scr Jean Drusus . 36 Dark Girl .... scr Radley 36 Pearl Bingen . scr Silver Sea .... 48 The field in the Mina Handicap is much the same as that In the Trial Handicap. If Little Victor receives a penalty as a result of the running of the latter, Jester, Jean Drusus and Radley may fight out the finish. Radley ran third to Lord Matchlight and Lomar at Kaikoura, while Jean Drusus won over a mile at Westland in 2.22 3-5. SPOTSWOOD HANDICAP tin harness), of 55 sovs. Class, 3.45. One mile and a-balf. Dark Girl .... ser Neil Dillon ... scr Raywood ... scr Dorack scr Nat Dillon .... scr Orni scr Peter Piper .. scr Duet scr Royal Parade . scr Pearl Bingen . scr Kanieri scr Irish Author .. scr Pronto Bingen scr Te Aike 60 They appear to be rather a poor lot in the Spotswood Handicap, but something may spring a surprise. Possibly Kanieri and Te Aike will find most favour. PARNASSUS HANDICAP (in harness), of 70 sovs. Trotters only. Class, 5.7. Two. miles. Gift scr Nelson Moor .. 24 Arohanui scr Fair Exchange 36 Golden Girl ... scr Dillfashion .. -18 Rembrandt .. scr Esbine 12 Don Denver .. scr Real Guy 72 Element scr Arthur Thorpe 84 Bell Heather . 12 Great Triumph 288 In the Parnassus Handicap Element, Dillfashion, and Esbine should give a good account of themselves. Dillfashion won at Kaikoura by three lengths in 4mln. 57 4-ssec., and appears to be on the upgrade. McKENZIE HANDICAP (in harness), of 80 sovs. Class, 3.2. One mile and a-quarter. Jean Drusus .. scr Harvest Girl ..12 Arklow scr Vienn 12 Future ser Gold Rush ... 12 Aristotle ecr Lydia Pointer . 24 Bell Somerton . scr Actor 21 Direct Chimes, scr Mountain Ore .. 56 Little Victor ..scr Lydia Pointer, Harvest Girl and Vican make the strongest appeal in the McKenzie Handicap. The first-named may be favourite. BOLLARD HANDICAP (in saddle), of 55 sovs. Class, 2.26. One mile. Peter Piper .. scr Homeward Master Don ~. scr Bound 12 Cora Locanda , scr Reylet 12 Jessie Bells ... scr Glitter 12 Kathleen Direct Chimes 12 Dillon scr Silver Sea .... 24 Linella scr Harvest Girl .. 24 Denver Jack .. ser Child de Oro .. 24 Great Audo ... 12 Glenlake 36 Compromise . 12 Harley Dillon . 48 Radley 12 Compromise, who won at Timarti In smart time, Homeward Bound, a winner at Westland, and Glenlake, who won over a mile In harness at Kaikoura in 2mln. 16 2-5. are sure to race well In the Bollard Handicap.
