ACROSS EVANS BAY
Swim for Peck Shield FORTY COMPETITORS / Over forty swimmers participated in a swim across Evans Buy and back on Saturday afternoon —a distance of one and a half miles. A handsome shield, presented last year by Peck and Sons, London, was competed for for the first time. The conditions provide that the competition shall be open to all clubs affiliated- to the Wellington centre, teams to consist of four, it being l optional for any club to enter six swimmers (the first four finishing to constitute a team). L. Dawkins (9min.), of the Lyall Bay club, was the first to complete the course, his actual swimming time being 48min. 46sec. The scratch man, C. Claridgc, covered the distance in the shortest time —4lmin. 12sec. The course was set from the bathing sheds on the western side of the bay to the nearest point on the Miramar wharf, and back.
