Demolition of Building NOT CONSIDERED SAFE A decision has been reached by Cabinet to demolish the old Government Life Insurance building in Customhouse Quay, and a new building will be erected on the site when the area has been cleared. The work of removing the present building will be started in about six months’ time, when the staff at present accommodated in it will do shifted to new quarters. The Government Life Insurance building is one of the oldest structures owned by the State in Wellington. It is of brick, and it is stated to have become unsuitable for present-day needs. -I l } addition, fears have been expressed that it will become unsafe for occupancy in a few years owing to the fact that it is not considered sufficiently earthquake resisting.
