POLITICS IN FRANCE

Formation of New Cabinet LEADER STEPS FORWARD (Rec. January 27, 10 p.m.) Paris, January 27. M. Laval has formed a Cabinet which is as follows:— PremierM. Laval Foreign AffairsM. Briand War M. Maginot Finance M. Flandin Budget M. Pletri CommerceM. Rollin AgricultureM. Tardieu

On January, 23 the Steeg Government was defeated in the Chamber following criticism of M. Boret’s wheat price plan, and resigned. A sensation which was expected to lead to a crisis arose in the Chamber on January 16 when M. Boret, Minister of Agriculture, announced a decision to increase the tariff on imported wheat, sending up the price from 14/- to 14/7 a hundredweight. M. Meyer, Under-Secretary of the Department of Commerce, contradicted M. Boret’s announcement, which he said had not received Cabinet’s approval, as it was feared that the move would lead to wild wheat speculation.
