The greatest surprises of the Dominion croquet tournament were'in the women’s championship. Mrs. Hadfield (United) beat Mrs. Tiffen (Napier) by 15. • Mrs. Tiffen had few chances to score. In the same event, Mrs. Scandrett (United) beat Mrs. Watkins (Napier) by 13. In the handicaps, Mrs. Watkins gave Mrs. Scandrett three bisques and beat her by 13. Now the position is reversed. The final of the handicap doubles was won by ■ Sir Francis and Lady Wemyss from Mesdames Freeman and Williamson (United). The latter team played a line open game, but the viistors were very careful in shooting and took no risks. The lawns had a soaking and were heavy, and this partly caused Mrs. Watkins’s defeat.
