HUTT UNEMPLOYED

Organisation of Relief

Arrangements have been made for the appointment of a female unemployment investigating officer for the Hutt A alley, including Upper Hutt and Eastbourne. The idea is for herrto investigate cases of need in the district. The fact that she will be working in conjunction with the Hutt Valley Unemployment Committee will ensure the thorough organisation of relief, and prevent overlapping. There are in Petone, according to the mayor, Mr. D. McKenzie, 147 unemployed —86 married and 61 single . men. School committees are endeavouring to raise a fund, to be subsidised by the Unemployment Board, for the formation of a children’s play prea, and so give some relief before Christmas.
