Upper Hutt Man Convicted

For cruelly ill-treating a horse by riding it when it had sores on its back. Alfred Southee was fined £+ and costa in the Magistrate's Court at Upper Hutt yesterday by Mr, T. B. McNeil, S.M. Defendant pleaded guilty to the offence. Evidence was given by Inspector Henry, of th? Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, that on November 4 ho saw the horse which had been ridden by defendant. It had a large sore along the backbone which ran under the saddle. Another sore further along, but also under the saddle ,was a deep-cut one. The horse was old and in poor condition, Accompanied by Constable Larsen witness inspected the horse again on November 11, and the sores were still raw, as defendant l had done nothing toward having them healed.
