Ministerial. The Hon. E. A. Ransom, Acting-Prime Minister, who has been recuperating at his home at Dannevirke, was to have returned to Wellington yesterday to resume his official duties, but on reaching Palmerston North in the morning he was advised of the deatli of Mrs. Ransom’s mother. Mr. Ransom then returned to Dannevirke, and he is now expected to return to his duties to-morrow. The Hon. J. B. Donald, PostmasterGeneral, returned to Wellington , from Auckland by train yesterday morning. The Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour, left for New Plymouth yesterday afternoon. He is to speak on the unemployment problem at Wanganui tomorrow evening and at Matamata on Friday evening. It is probable that he will address a meeting at Auckland on Saturday evening. Sir Apirana Ngutn, Minister of Native Affairs, who accompanied Mr. Ransom to the Rotorua district over the week-end, returned to Wellington yesterday and later presided at a meeting of Cabinet. The Hon. A. J. Murdoch, Minister/)! Agriculture, who left on Monday, evening to attend the Invercargill Agricultural and Pastoral Show, is expected to return to Wellington at the end of the week. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, left Auckland last evening for Patea, where he is to officiate at the opening of several public institutions. He will go to Hamilton to-morrow to open a new maternity hospital and u school dental clinic, leaving for Wellington in the evening.

The Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education, opened the new Owairaka School at Auckland yesterday afternoon.. He will visit schools in the Auckland district this afternoon and in the evening he will attend the breaking-up ceremony at the Seddon Memorial Technical College. The Minister will leave for Te Awamutu tomorrow morning to open a new school there. He is to attend the prize-giving at. the Napier Boys’ High School oq Friday and he will return to Wellington on Saturday. Mr. James Begg, Dunedin, is at the Royal Oak Hotel. / Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., for Stratford, is at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. W. J. Butler, Hokitika, is registered at the Royal Oak Hotel. Messrs. J. J. and J. A. Corrie, Blenheim, are guests at the Royal Oak Hotel. Mr. James Cruse, and Mr. A. R. Hamilton, Christchurch, are guests at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. Kirkham, Mr. R. W. Browne, and Mr. W. McK. Jeffrey, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Arthur E. Adams is a Cape Town visitor to Wellington, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Wright, Pahiatua, and Mr. and Mrs. Sparrow, Dunedin, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. H. Vernon, Sidmouth, England, are visitors to Wellington and are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel. , Dr. E. Gordon Anderson left Wellington last evening for Dunedin to attend the annual general meeting of the College of Surgeons of Australasia to-mor-row. Mr. J. H. Meyer has been reappointed to represent the Wellington Builders’ and Contractors’ Association on the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Mr. W. T. Wakelin, officer in charge of the Labour Department, Wellington, who underwent an operation recently, is now progressing. He will resume his duties in the New Year. Captain F. Haig, Messrs. Oscar Garden, N. E. Hamilton, Christchurch, L. Stevens, S. Kay, Auckland, S. Biber, Sydney, C. A. Wilck, London, Henry Bold, New York, and C. E. Harvey are guests at the Hotel St. George. Mr. J. ll.' Warboys, late headmaster of Kilbirnie School and past president and life member of the Wellington Public Schools’ Lawn Tennis Association, is lying seriously ill at the residence of Mr. J. Tamblyn, 8 Hautana Square, Lower Hutt. Mr. T. T. N. Coleridge, Wellington, will have the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical) conferred upon him at the next capping ceremony. The degree was confirmed at the last meeting of the New Zealand University Senate. Mr. G. C. Creagli has been elected chairman of the Auckland Stock Exchange for the twelfth successive year, reports n Press Association message from Auckland. Mr. J. W. Frater is vicechairman and Mr. G. R. Buttle treasurer (also re-elected).

Lord Barnby arrived nt Oamaru yesterday afternoon. He visited the Wai tnki Boys’ High School and delivered an inspiring address to the boys, who were assembled in the Hall of Memories, states a Press Association message from Oamaru. Later he left for the Waitaki hydro works, aud will then go on to Dunedin.
