‘THE BELLE OF NEW YORK’

Unquestionably the most popular opeia that the stage has known for the past 30 years, “The Bello of New York,” drew another crowded house at the Grand Opera House last night. Ifrom rise of curtain t.o its fall the performance was followed with the greatest enjoyment, the singing and the humour meeting with tho approval of everybody. While everybody knows the airs of this famous opera, it was a wonderful improvement to hear them sung and played in their original setting by a specially selected J. C. Williamson cast.

Miss Romola Hansen makes a perfectly delightful Salvation Army lass, and Sidney BurchaU is at Ills best in the romantic baritone part of Harry Bronson. Jim Gerald achieves an outstanding triumph as Bllnky Bill, and Amy Rochelle as Cora Angelique, The clever young comedian, Don bticol. Is the Polite Lunatic, and Klssy Fltzgarter is played by Dulcie Davenport Miriam Lester will appear as Fifl, Herbert Browne as Mons Frlcot, Bernard Manning as Ken neth Mugg, Sydney Wheeler as Doc Sniffklns, Leslie Donaghey as Count Patsf.and Cecil Pawley as William. Playgoers accorded Leslie Holland ah enthusiastic welcome when lie made his appearance an Ichabod Bronson, a character he has portrayed well on former occasions.
