FOUR RECOMMENDED

Colonial Appointments DOMINION CANDIDATES Four of the nine candidates who presented themselves were selected for recommendation to the Secretary of State for the Colonies at a meeting of the Central Board of Selection, Colonial Appointments, held at Government House, Wellington, last week. His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, is chairman of the board, and consideration is given to the applications of graduates of the University of New Zealand for appointment to the British Crown Colonies and Protectorates, ■which are under the control of his Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom. The board makes recommendations to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, with whom the final decision •rests.

The scheme has now been in operation for two years. At the first meeting of the board, held in December last, three candidates were selected, and were subsequently offered and accepted appointments, their names being: R, O. Sinclair, of Auckland, as an administrative officer in Nigeria; G. G. L. McLeod, of Auckland, as an assistant master (mathematics) in the Education Department of the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States; and R. W. B. Cairns, as a probationer in the preventive service, Government Monopolies Department, Straits Settlements.
