CAREFUL CAMPAIGN
Wool Improvement CENTRAL FUND SUGGESTED Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 5. The immediate formation of a carefully planned campaign to advance the movement aiming at the establishment of a central fund designed to benefit the woolgrowing industry of the Dominion was advocated by Lord Barnby, principal of the wool buying and manufacturing firm of Francis Willey and Co., who is at present visiting Palmerston North, in an interview. Lord Barnby expressed a hope that the Bill at present in draft form providing for such a scheme would be passed. Lord Barnby had been favourably impressed since his arrival in New Zealand by the view of several large wool growers that this country should emulate South Africa’s establishment of a central fund by a levy oh all exported wool. By spending the money thus obtained in such directions as teebnieal and economic research and publicity the fund could be used to advantage to the betterment of conditions in the industry. If such a scheme were instituted in Australia, where it would have a great influence, it could be hoped that Britain’s woollen manufacturing interests might be induced to form a similar organisation. central body of representatives could then be nominated to consider the best methods of expending the available funds.
