(Rec. 5.5 p.m., Hobart, December 1,) The axemen’s carnival was concluded at Ulverstone on Saturday, when great public interest was taken in the championship events, in which New Zealand and Australian axemen took part. The Hopetoun Cup for the world’s championship standing chop was won for the third time by R. Radford (Tasmania), who narrowly beat L. Appo, of Sydney. There was a great surprise when the Fraser brothers, of New Zealand, sawed brilliantly, and won the double-handed sawing. Results of finals: —

Tasmanian Centenary Cup (standing chop of four feet): Weston (Victoria), 1; Hunter (New Zealand), 2; Phillips, 3. Time, 57sec.
Braddon Championship (double-hand-ed sawing): H. and A. Fraser (New Zealand), 1; W. Turnbull and Walker (Tasmania), 2; S. G."Turnbull and E.
Turnbull (Tasmania}, 3. Won by a second in sixteen and four-fifths seconds—a world’s record.
