PARK ROAD RAMP
Petone Council Favourable The question of a ramp over the railway at Park Road was considered at a recent meeting of the Petono Borough Council, and a decision como to that It was not necessary. A reply to the Minister of Railways was delayed In order to give the matter further consideration. At last night’s .meeting of the council it was decided to hold the Government to the promise of islr Joseph Ward to build a ramp, stating that it should be erected when the traffic warranted it.
The mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) said there was no doubt that the locality would soon be the centre of a big industrial area, and that that fact was fully realised by Sir Joseph Ward, who completely understood the position. In his view, the late Prime Minister had made a promise, and it was the duty of the Government to honour it. The council should be careful in its reply not to give way on that point. He moved a motion that the Minister be notified that in view of Sir Joseph Ward’s promise of n ramp over the railway at Park Road, it Should be built as soon as the traffic warranted. ■ Councillor Jacobson held the view that if.thc Government allowed.a railway to go across a road it should take all the liability for safeguarding the public. Councillor Longman thought it foolish, if hot absurd, even to support a proposal for n ramp over the railway at Park Road, which was only a siding. Councillor Ryder thought at rump would be necessary. When the ttiUnM was cut through the Walnui hill that would be the road through to the Wairarapa. After the Walnul hill there would be a level road all the way. The motion was carried. ...
