Dempster’s Lads Do Well BASIN RESERVE TRY-OUT
That C. S. Dempster, the Wellington Cricket Association professional coach, is bringing his charges along well in his first year of office, was proved by the good showing a team of his colts put up at the Basin Reserve yesterday, when they defeated a fairly strong senior eleven organised by E. C. Wiren. The colts has first use of the wicket, and, starting at 10.40 a.m., held possession until 3.30 p.m., by which time they had scored 200 for the loss of seven wickets. Dempster then declared the innings closed. The feature of the innings was the sound display r ’ Tn " *■' 4 ‘ u ~ Technical Collegf team, who playei Blundell, Cousins, and Bollings witli the greatest of confidence, and was unbeaten with 41 to his credit when the closure was ap plied. Hankins, Cleave Tendill, and Ait ken also showed straight bat to tl: bowling. Dempste had reached 4! when he draggeu one well outside the off-stump from Cousins on to his wicket. Blundell bowled well in sending down 36 overs for 65 runs and four wickets. . . , , Wiren’s eleven, on going to the wickets, found the bowling of Ashenden, Crook, and Aitken too good for them, and were all dismissed for 135. Hollings, who hit out freely for 48, was the only batsman to shap" at all well against the attack of the colts, who demanded respect. At one stage Crook bowled nine overs for 7 runs.
