Farmers Enter Protest Wheu the deputation of Matamata farmers waited on the Government yesterday in regard to the position of small farmers in that district, Mr.' D. B. Higgins, chairman of the District Farmers’ Union, said that while they had a source of electricity supply, they had to pay higher rates than the Auckland people. In the towns there were all. facilities for cleaning and other domestic purposes in the household, and the same facilities should be at the disposal of the girl who went to work on the farms. Mr. P. Hawke contended that the country power boards should be put on the same footing as the town boards, for it was a great injustice that the country people should have to pay higher rates. „ , , The Hon. R. Masters, Deputy-Leader of the Legislative Council, replied that the question of power board contracts would be referred to the Government.
