October Customs Duty WELLINGTON RETURNS Decline in Four Months Indications that the sharp decline in imports is continuing are contained in the Wellington Customs revenue figures for October,' when compared with those of the corresponding month of last year. The net Customs revenue collected at Wellington last month totalled £254,954 as against £279,133 for October, 1929, a decrease of £24,179. For the ten months of this year the revenue was £2,571,006 compared with £2,559,225 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of £11,781. At the end of June, the imports for the six months of this year showed an increase of £114,726 over those for the corresponding period of 1929, so that in the past 4 months the Wellington figures show a drop of over £lOO,OOO in comparison with the corresponding period of last year. Motor Spirit and Tires. The duty collected on motor spj/ff last month was £36.455, as against ±28,143 for October, 1929, an increase of £8312. The figures for the ten months period are respectively £361,026 ano £320,744, an increase of £40,2 <J. Collections of tire tax last month totalled £1896, as compared with ±3o2< for October, 1929, a decrease jof £ll3l. For the ten months a drop of £18,019 is recorded, the figures being £30,293 and £48,312 respectively. » Beer Duty. Beer excise collections for October were £4709, as against £5172 for October, 1929, a decrease of £463. en months the figures are £4a,110 as against £41,458, an increase of £360~. A decrease in Customs duties, noted also during September, is the feature of the figures for this month, the decrease compared with October, 1929, being £15.732. To date the decrease in the calendar year is £203,535 and the financial year £107,207.
