NAVAL VISITORS

Government House Dance COLOURFUL SCENE Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Bledisloe gave a dance at Government House last night iu honour of Head-Admiral Kayser and the officers of the visiting Dutch squadron, of whom about twenty-five were present. The scene in the ballroom was a colourful one, lor the visitors were in uniform, as were a number of officers of H.M.S. Dunedin, who were present, while the red coats of the military officers and the grey-blue of the air serving were also to be seen, and contrasted with the light dresses of the girls present, the majority of whom were in soft floral chiffons or light taffeta. It was noticeable that all frocks were long and generally full at the hem. As usual at the Government House dances, the flowers were arranged with fine effect. Iu the ballroom hanging baskets of fern were placed along the ceiling, and in the corners were tall ferns and palms, \\aile on either side of the stage were masses of cyclamen in all colours, and further dowu the room banks of cinerarias. In the drawing rooms were beautiful stock and other flowers,’ and ou the table iu the billiard room, where refreshments were served, were large silver bowls filled with bronze nud yellow wallflowers, while shaded pink stocks decorated the table iu the diningroom. Their Excellencies entered the ballroom at nine o’clock and dancing then commenced. The visitors were introduced to the many girls present, and quickly found partners. Lady Bledisloe wore a gown of soft green tulle and silver, shading at the loot to a deeper shade aiid slightly trained, a tulle scarf and diamond ornaments. She carried a feather fan. to match. Mrs. A. Bathurst wore deep rose pink brocaded iu gold and finished with georgette to tone; Miss Gillespie wore jade green chiffon with shoulder cape and long full skirt. Among the guests were Mrs. Bremner, wife of the new commander of the Dunedin, who wore pale apple green satin with crossway frills on the skirt. Mrs. R.
