Samoan Affairs

Sir, —In your issue of October 13 you published a letter from the solicitor to the Samoa Women’s Mau, Mr. P. B. Fitzherbert, which makes very painful reading to the average-minded New Zealander. . I do not propose to traverse his long and ably-penned letter, but surely, Sir, this gentleman must be wrong in his statements, or as he writes the Czars of Russia could not improve on the way Samoa is being administered. _ Under the mandate we received from Geneva, are we doing our best for the unfortunate Samoans? In the meantime, perhaps the Government will shed more light upon the veil which has descended upon Samoa since the unfortunate affray where several natives were shot. — I am, etc., w } MELVILUS . Wanganui, October 14.
