COLLEGE BOXING
Tournament at Rongotai A successful boxing tournament of about 62 bouts was concluded at Rongotai Boys College yesterday. Many of the contests were of a very high standard and reflected great credit upon the instructor, Mr. A. J. Heron, and the senior boys of the school. The preliminaries were refereed by the principal, Mr. F. Martyn Renner, and tli<3 finals by Mr. E. Perry, of the Wellington Boxing Association. At the finals yesterday many parents and also representatives of the Wellington Boxing Association were present. A warm welcome was accorded by the school to the visitors. ' , , The medal for the best boxer, any weight, any age, win or lose, was awarded to Broomfield. The following are the results:— 601 b. Class—Proctor and Hayes bqxed a draw. t SOlb. Class.—Phillips beat Haswell ii; Morgan beat Hooker; Coveny i. beat Gray iv. Semi-finals. —Phillips beat Martin; Coveny i. beat Morgan. Final.—Coveny i. beat Phillips. 901 b. Class. —Broomfield beat Gollop; Watson i. beat Mollier; Maclean beat Green ii.; Hudson beat Furey; Aekins beat Greenall; Curgenven beat Sunnex; Watson i. beat Maclean: Broomfield beat Troy; Curgenven beat Hudson. Semi-final.—Watson beat Aekins; Broomfield beat Curgenven. Final. —Watson beat Broomfield. 1101 b. B Class.—Wiren beat Downes; Christie beat Drake; McLennan beat Calcanai; Dowling beat Turney; Wiren beat Christie; McLennan beat Wilson iv. (Dowling was outstanding in these contests.) Semi-final. —Dowling beat McLennan. Final.—Wiren beat Dowling. 1101 b. A Class.—Gavey 1. beat Gray i.; Robinson beat Mackie; Goodwin beat Edmond; Connell ii. beat Hoy; Keir ill. beat Hunt 1.; Robinson beat. Gavey 1 The boxing in almost all these bouts was of a high standard, particularly in the case of Robinson, Mackie, Connell, Keir. Semi-final. — Keir iii. beat Goodwin; Robinson beat Parfitt.
