WHALE OIL

Norwegian Output Sold One of the few bright spot* in the world’s markets to-day is that of the Norwegian whaling Industry. The production for the 1929-30 season was 1,720,775 barrels of oil, an Increase of 55 per cent, on the previous year. This season the Antarctic whalers have sailed unusually early, and owing to recent enlargements of existing floating factories and construction of new ships a substantial increase in wbnle oil production is anticipated. Nevertheless, ail except 500.000 barrels of this season’s oil has already been sold at a price ot £25 per ton. FAIRBURN TO SLIP. The auxiliary scow Fairburn is to go on the Patent Slip this morning for overi will come off on Saturday and will leave the same day for Karamea. THE KAIMIRO. The Union Company advise that the Kaimlro was to have left Melbourne yesterday for Devonport to complete loading for Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. THE KALINGO. rx 'T lie Union Company advise that the Kallngo left Greymouth at 3.30 a.m. yesterday for Sydney. She will then proceed to Coff’s Harbour and Newcastle to load for Auckland, Napier and Lyttelton. THE POOLTA. The Union Company's Poolta is due at Wellington this morning from Gisborne to complete discharge of her cargo from Grafton, Port Stephens and Newcastle. She will leave again later in the day for Greymouth. THE ROTORUA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua, from London, is scheduled to leave Southampton to-morrow for Suva, Wellington (passengers only), Dunedin, Lyttelton and Napier. THE CAPE YORK. The Union Company’s chartered motorship Cape York is to leave Los Angeles on Saturday with Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Australia. WELCOMBE REPORTS. The steamer Welcombe has reported by wireless that she expects to reach Auckland to-night from Nauru Island. She has a full cargo of 8200 tons of phosphates for discharge at the northern port. THE CANADIAN CONQUEROR. En route from Montreal, the Canadian National steamer Canadian Conqueror is reported to have cleared the Panama Canal last Saturday for Auckland and Australian ports. She is due at Auckland on November 9. MAKURA DEAVES RAROTONGA. The Union Company advise, that their liner Makura, en route from San Francisco, left Rarotonga on Tuesday for Wellington. She is due here on Monday morning, and will leave again the following afternoon for Sydney. ZEALANDIC'S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw, Savill Company advises that their motor-ship Zealandic will now leave Wellington at noon to-day for Gisborne, Walkokopu and Auckland to complete her homeward loading. She is scheduled to clear the northern port finally on October 28 for London, via the Panama Canal. i THE PORT NICHOLSON. The C. & D. Line advise that the Port Nicholson is now to leave Suva this morning for Lyttelton, where she Is due on October 21 to continue discharge of her London cargo. She will later proceed to Dunedin, Bluff, and Nelson to complete discharge. PORT BRISBANE'S MOVEMENTS. The C. & D. Line advise that the Port Brisbane left Timaru yesterday for Lyttelton to continue her homeward loading. She will subsequently load at Wanganui, New Plymouth, Auckland, Napier, and Wellington. The vessel is due here on November 3, and is scheduled to clear this port finally on November 5 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow, via Cape Horn. MAHENO’S PASSENGERS. The Union Company's Maheno, which is duo at Wellington to-morrow morning from Melbourne, via Bluff, Dunedin, nnd Lyttelton, has on board the following saloon passengers for Wellington:—Mr. H. W. Alexander, Mrs. J. D. Dalgleish, Miss P. A. Dalgleish, Miss P. W. Hocking, Miss F. N. Mill. Miss D. McCann, Miss I. Stuart, Mrs. F. West, Mrs. M. Wood, and 36 third class.
