GERMAN BOMB PLOT
Against Oil Magnate WIFE BADLY HURT Berlin, August 25. A mysterious bomb plot against Herr Schliemann, the German oil magnate, resulted in his young wife being taken to the hospital at Hamburg in a serious condition. During the night miscreants cut all the millionaire's tele phone wires and attached a cord from a shutter to an infernal machine in the garden, loaded with a powerful explosive. The bomb was discovered in the morning, the fuse having failed to cause an explosion, but meanwhile Frau Schliemann trod on a stick cunningly connected with a second bomb concealed nearby, and exploded its content?. The wife fell unconscious and her face and arms were cut by a score of fragments of the bomb. It seems that Herr Schliemann was recently the recipient of a blackmailing letter demanding £1250. The millionaire, however, put the matter in the hands of the police. The dynamite outrage may be the blackmailers’ revenge.
