President Augusto Leguia, who has ruled Peru under a virtual dictatorship for eleven years, has resigned and fled toward Panama aboard a cruiser. A military insurrection started a week ago in Southern Peru and spread like wildfire under the leadership of Colonel Sanchez Guerro. Disorders broke out in the capital after the President’s resignation was announced. Four citizens were killed.
