PLUNKET SOCIETY

Lower Hutt Branch The Mayor (Sir Alexander Roberts) presided last week over the eighth annual meeting of the Lower Hutt branch of the Plunket Society. Sir Alexander Roberts congratulated the society on its sterling- work during the year, and said he did not think it received sufficient support from residents. He thought the society’s receipts should be at least, double, and he would rather see 2000 subscribers at 5/- each than 200 at £l/1/-. While all understood that the present financial stringency in the country called for economy, he did not think that societies such as the Plunket Society should be affected. Every assistance would be given by the borough council in the event of the society deciding to extend its building operations on the eastern side of the borough, as had been stilted. ' The’ following were elected as officers for the ensuing year:— President, Mrs. McCaw: vice-presidents, Lady Roberts, Mrs. C. B. Buxton, Mrs. G. A. Chapman. Mrs. 11. D. Ewen, Mrs. E. W.
