GIFTS TO BRITAIN
Two Millions for Social Work FROM AMERICAN MAGNATE (Rec. July 24, 8.55 p.m.) London, July 24. Interest is taken In an announcement that Mr. Edward Harkness, the American railway magnate of Scottish descent, is devoting a largo sum to educational and social work in Great Britain. The sum is understood in Parliamentary circles to be at least two millions sterling. Mr. Baldwin, the Conservative leader, possibly will be a member of the committee, which will recommend outlets for the fund, but nothing is likely to be decided hastily.
AID FOR EMPIRE FORESTRY
Rajah of Sarawak’s Gift (Rec. July 24, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless. Rugby, July 23. The Rajah of Sarawak has decided that the unallocated balance, amounting to £25,000, of his gift of £lOO,OOO to the British Government should be offered to the Imperial Forestry Institute. The main portion of the gift Is to be used as a fund to assist the education of children of colonial civil servants.
