NAVAL TREATY

Bill in House of Commons ATTITUDE OF DOMINIONS (Rec. July 24, 7.40 p.m.) London, July 23. Mr. C. G. Ammon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, moved the second reading of the London Naval Treaty BUI. Commander Southby (Con.) considered that the BUI should be delayed until after the forthcoming Imperial Conference, Mr. Baldwin asked whether the Government had any assurance from the Dominions, including the Irish Free State, that they would give effect to the legislation necessary to carry out the terms of the BUI. Mr. A. V. Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, said the Government had had indications from all the Dominions that were represented at the conference that they intended fully to recognise the London Naval Treaty. The Government had no doubt that the Dominions would pass the necessary legislation to carry out their obligations. If there was any doubt it could be settled at the Imperial Conference, but there was no reason why the-House of Commons should delay till then. The Bill passed the second reading.
